Christine Cuyler is a research scientist at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, responsible for the terrestrial environment, specifically assessment of caribou (Rangifer tarandus spp.) and muskoxen (Ovibos moschatus) populations and subsequent management advice to the Greenland government. Cuyler has successfully conducted field work in the arctic (Canada, Svalbard, Greenland) on a variety of mammals regardless of the season. Participation of local experts in fieldwork planning, local knowledge, project execution and reporting is common. Languages are English, Danish and Norwegian. Educational Background includes a Dr. Scient. 1993 and M.Sc. 1985 from the Univ. of Oslo, Oslo, Norway, preceded by a B.Sc. 1976 from the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Primary Current Projects are 1) abundance & demographics surveys or minimum counts for caribou and muskoxen, and 2) caribou reproduction, body condition/size, health and contaminants. Synergistic activities include membership in the CircumArctic Rangifer Monitoring & Assessment (CARMA) international caribou network, the Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Program of the terrestrial environment (CBMP-terrestrial), the Science Steering Committee for the International Study of Arctic Change (ISAC), which comes under the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), as well as contributing to the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) project on - Rapid Assessment of features and areas for Circumarctic Ecosystem Resilience in the 21st Century (RACER).
